The Yoga Sutra-s of Patanjali constitute an authoritative teaching on yoga as a discipline of mind, body and spirit. It is highly valued by all branches of yoga.

 

Patanjali consolidated the entirety of yoga philosophy into 196 lucid aphorisms. They provide deep, universal insight into the essential psychological and metaphysical questions we pose. They describe the process of unbinding our limited ideas about ourselves and give us the tools for self-liberation.

  • 8 limbs that comprise the yoga method;
  • The causes of our suffering and ways to overcome it.

PROGRAM CONTENT

In the course of the 10 weeks we will systematically work our way through the Yoga Sutra-s. Each class will include presentation on a number of key sutras (typically 2-6 per session), sutra discussion, physical practice, possibly a short meditative practice and sutra chanting. We will use this classical yogic text as a road map to develop and maintain a life process grounded in spirituality.

PRACTICE EMPHASIS: Text Study, Asana, Pranayama, Chanting, Meditation
